Jazz music originated in New Orleans in the
early 20th century. The 1940s is the only time
in history when the popularity of live jazz
surpassed all other musical genres in the United
States. It was known as the the big band era of
jazz music, and during this time, swing jazz
music and big jazz band music reigned supreme.
Jazz big bands like those of Duke Ellington,
Woody Herman, Count Basie, and others upheld the
tradition through the 1950s and 1960s. Today,
there are many types of live jazz bands that you
can choose to have perform at your special event
or wedding reception. We have small jazz combos
which play light dinner jazz. There are big jazz
bands (playing the classic jazz music of Cole
Porter, Geoge Gershwin, Glenn Miller) who will
get everyone dancing after dinner. And then
there are swing jazz bands which will play a
wide array of jazz music ranging from the
sophisticated big jazz band sound to the more
modern swing jazz bands and jazz musicians such
as The Brian Setzer Orchestra and Harry Connick
Jr. Latin jazz music has become quite popular as
well, and many jazz bands have Latin jazz in
their repertoires. Gigmasters has thousands of
professional jazz bands and jazz musicians
throughout the U.S. and Canada. So hire a jazz
band today!
