| Mitzi Michelle Jones, formerly known as Mitzi Miller, has been the front woman and co-songwriter for Fayetteville bands since 1998. She's been the lead singer of bands such as Sunday Driver, Ultra Suede, Extra Virgin and The Candle Moths. In the past she guest performed numerous times with longtime Fayetteville fixtures such as Hunkr Down, Wavetrain and The Lucious Spiller Band. She's shared the stage with members of the Cate Brothers, Oreo Blue, Dave Stiles Band, the Bob Kramer Incident, Phase One and Rhythm Mandir. Ten years later she's still just as into the music as ever, although her style has evolved much over the years-- from her very first band at age 21 (a classic rock cover band) to her most recent one (an original Brit-Pop style outfit). "I'm a frontwoman," she says, "but I could never be an instrumentalist. I'd trip over a guitar because I get so physically into my singing. That's why I rely on my band for the instrumental talent. I'm "the voice". I've always been an extrovert... although I will say that having kids has mellowed me out a bit." Mitzi has received several NAMA and OMA nominations for best female vocalist over the years, and each time lost out to songstresses Cherry Brooks and Ocie Fisher-- but graciously admits to having been bested by the Hall-of-Famers, both of whom she admires. She accepted a NAMA Hall of Fame Award with Ultra Suede in 2004 while she was their lead vocalist, and an OMA for Best Party Band. Mitzi Jones is a photographer and does professional modeling as well. She heads up Ravenwood Modeling, an organization for alternative-style models. Mitzi took a break from the action and had twin baby boys in January of 2008. She is married and has a 7-year-old daughter as well. She's not currently with a band, but is looking to end her musical hiatus by finding a brand new one to front. |
