THE COLOURS OF TIME
A THEATRICAL AND CONTEMPORARY DANCE PERFORMANCE FOR CHILDREN
The Colours of Time (Els Colors Del Tic-Tac) is an original play written and choreographed by Catalan dancer Núria Serra.
This is a captivating story that inculcates the value of friendship and teamwork while confronting individualism in this new era where technology is ever-present. The story shows that there is no need to rely on technology for entertainment; with a little imagination the children can have fun with the simplest, everyday objects around them - pillow, jackets, umbrellas, fallen leaves etc.
It all began one Saturday afternoon that promised to be very fun. Four young friends were on their way to a birthday party and so far, everything was perfect! Soon a great storm arrived with thunders, lightning, and a lot of rain. And now the afternoon became a little sad with no games, laughter and outdoor slides. But - one of them was able to use his imagination. Little by little the children learnt they can spend the best afternoon of their lives with simple things such as flashlights, dice, pillows, umbrellas, cards and balls and they ended up playing till late.
This story narrates through dance and mime to express the values of friendship and personal attitudes towards life: generosity, selfishness, possession, fear, courage, enthusiasm, and disappointment. The fact of sharing, of imagining, of learning to play with the simplest and everyday things that surround us at home, in nature, and in school make us realise that we do not need technology to distract us. The real element is within us: our imagination and our ability to preserve the gift of being "children" even as adults.
